Brooke works for a publisher in Sydney. One day she finds a manuscript on her desk with a sticky note telling her she might be interested in this submission. She starts in and gets drawn in and starts giving copies to her friend in sales to get her opinion on its marketability. She has other authors and emergencies, but she keeps being drawn into the story.

Just like Brooke, Eve quickly caught my attention. Not an extraordinary character, but just one of the millions of Moms who do all the crappy work and do not get a lot of support or respect for it. She became pregnant by Liam and nine years and two kids later he still has not asked her to marry him. He is the breadwinner and wants his kids to be raised by a stay at home mom but feels that entitles him to do nothing. Sam is her sister who has a column with a major London newspaper and has published two books. She is getting ready to write her next one and decides to give her sister a break and take care of the kids for a long weekend. Eve was complaining, but she was horrified at the thought of Sam taking care of her kids. She has a fight with Liam and decides to take her up on it.

Sam arrives in Dublin and decides to take a cab and after a long line ends up looking at her driver and having a "this is the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with" moments. She is on a break because her boyfriend of two years has proposed three times. The cab driver happens to be with Anna, a friend of Eve's. The story has a lot of twists and turns. It is one of those books that sneak up on you. If you want lots of sex and tortured heroes, this is not the book for you. It grabs you, but it is a quiet, intelligent book about real women, love, loss and tragedy. I enjoyed this book.

The Last to Know Melissa Hill 9781842232941 Books Reviews

Good family read, kept my attention. Melissa's writing style seems to come full circle, with her characters. Okay ending, good karma.
I am an avid reader of women's fiction and chick lit novels, and of all the books that I have read, I don't think that I have ever used the term "roller coaster" to describe a novel, but that is exactly what Melissa Hill's novel "Last to Know" is. The novel revolves around a set of interconnected characters Eve, Liam, Roalan, Anna, and Samantha. The story is engaging, yet about a third of the way through the novel, you learn that as a reader, you are not reading the main story, but rather a manuscript of a story that has been sent to a publisher. The story of the publisher then becomes the main focus in the remaining third of the novel. It is a jarring twist that as a reader, I was uncomfortable with at first, but as Hill wraps up the novel, everything comes together. The novel was complex, emotional and far darker than I thought it would be. I would recommend the novel; however, if you are looking for some breezy chick-lit, this is not that type of novel. It is a much more serious exploration of life and tragedy.
If you are a fan of Irish writers such as Patricia Scanlan, Cathy Kelly, Marian Keyes, or Roisin Meaney, then you will enjoy your novel.
I gave it five stars because it held my interest
I love a story that has a surprise ending .
The name of the book is right on the mark
I will tell my friends and family about this book for sure.
Enjoyed reading. Was hard to put down once started reading. Will try to read more of her books, they are good.
And well written. It would have five stars if I had not floundered while reading. I actually reread the entire book to try to make sure that I got it right.

I liked it and recommend it to you.
I am now an ardent fan of Melissa Hill's books. Each and every one that I have read has twists and unexpected turns and this one was no exception. Her characters are realistic and the plots keeping you in suspense. Just about the time I think I know what is going to happen, I get a surprise. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a really great story.
Kept me interested throughout. I don't usually like a book that goes back and forth, but I couldn't put it down. Young adults and up. Another one that has years in it, because it's so real-life. How people can believe what they want to believe.
